Theresa Smith

Blackberry (Rubus fruticosus)

I always loved to draw as a young child, and this led to studying for a degree in Fine Art at Reading University.  Many years later I was fortunate to enrol on Angie Girling’s Botanical Art course.  It was here that I discovered the joy, and challenge, of botanical painting.  As a keen gardener, and lover of nature, this meant my two interests of art and horticulture could combine through the art of botanical illustration.  I enjoy observing the fascinating small detail of a plant and understanding its’s structure and habit of growth.  My favourite mediums are watercolour, pen and ink and graphite.  I am a long standing member of Bath Society of Botanical Artists, where I enjoy the company of like-minded artists who meet regularly to support and learn from each other.
